Pastoral Care

The Pastoral Care Companions are lay members of White Bear UU Church who have volunteered to work with the minister to provide pastoral care to members who are facing isolation, personal tragedies, bereavement, or various health conditions, including acute or chronic illness. The role of the Pastoral Care Associate (PCA) is to care, listen, accept, and comfort. All PCAs have been trained in confidentiality, listening, and other pertinent skills.

The PCAs provide volunteer care that is in addition to, not in place of, care provided by our ministers, by family and friends, and by professional health care and counseling. WBUUC members may request a PCA visit by contacting our ministers.

Needs might include:

  • Visiting members and friends at home, in the hospital, or nursing home;
  • Delivering meals to an individual or family;
  • Driving someone to church, or to errands or appointments;
  • Listening to someone in distress, or simply going through a hard time;
  • Sending cards or flowers;
  • Visiting by phone;
  • Companioning a new member here at church;
  • Helping with yard work or household chores when someone is unable to do these things;
  • Befriending a child or youth;
  • Checking up on someone not lately seen;
  • Helping at Memorial receptions;
  • Assisting new parents;
  • Just listening…

You can reach our ministers, and the PCA’s, by calling Rev. Jack Gaede (651-204-8204) or via e-mail at revjack@wbuuc.org
