Reopening: Levels

The Reopening Committee, along with the staff team, has developed a regathering plan based on science provided by the Center for Disease Control, local public health data, advice from the Protocols Advisory team, and UUA recommendations. The plan is also rooted in our commitment as a community centered on inclusion and welcome. We recognize this plan might feel too conservative for some and others might feel uncertain. The work of living in community has always been holding the tension between individual needs and group desires. We ask you to abide by these guidelines, respect the comfort level of others by asking for consent rather than assuming, and keep lines of communication open. Our regathering plan calls us to live into our relational covenants as we continue to navigate the pandemic’s continued uncertainty. Please remember that we are providing a good virtual option for those who are uncertain about being in the building.

Within this plan are five levels covering several areas of community engagement–from small groups to worship services. Regardless of the level, centering the most vulnerable among us remains at the forefront of our decisions, which means that all levels include virtual options. The levels are as follows:

We will move from Level 3 to Level 2 on Sunday, September 12. Please remember that the situation with COVID remains fluid, so we will need to remain flexible as we assess the risk; because of this we may need to return to higher levels of the plan on short notice. More information about what guidelines are in place, and what to expect for the shift to Level 2 on September 12 is provided below.

Guidelines For Level 3 (our current level):

  • Masks are required in the building for all people over the age of 5.
  • All present are required to remain at a 6 ft. distance from others not in their family group/pods.
  • All events held inside the building have a group size limit, and require signing up in advance.
  • No food or drink allowed at events held inside the building.
  • No singing, deep breathing exercises, or wind instruments inside or out.

Guidelines for Level 2 (beginning on September 12):

  • Masks are required in the building for all people over the age of 3.
  • All present are required to remain at a 6 ft. distance from others not in their family group/pods.
  • Seating in the sanctuary will be appropriately spaced and limited.
  • Registration in advance is required. We will hold back a percentage of seats for visitors and those who are unable to register in advance.
  • There will be a check-in process including answering screening questions.
  • Singing isn’t allowed, but we encourage quiet humming or moving your body to the music.
  • Food and beverages are not allowed in the building.
  • Social Hour will be held in the Courtyard and on the front lawn (as weather permits).

We encourage you to practice grace and patience, center your response in our Unitarian Universalist values of inclusion. As always, our ministers are here to provide support as we continue to process the shared trauma and grief resulting from the pandemic.
