Facing Race Stirring Committee

The Facing Race Stirring Committee (FRSC) is dedicated to helping the WBUUC community view all of our work through a lens of racial justice. To that end, we are committed to providing educational events and resources as well as identifying opportunities to support and engage with diverse community organizations that reflect our mission.  We keep the good work of dismantling white supremacy culture in the minds of the congregation and we challenge institutional racism by owning our part in it, naming it when we see it, and practicing how to talk to one another about race and racism. The current FRSC is a continuation of many years of committee and community work, going back to at least 2001.

In recent years, the FRSC has…

  • Helped educate congregants and encouraged them to accept the 8th Principle, which commits congregations to “. . . dismantle racism and other oppressions . . .“  Our congregation voted overwhelmingly to adopt the 8th Principle at the WBUUC 2023 Annual Meeting.
  • Researched and drafted a congregational Land Acknowledgement Statement and Action Plan and secured their approval by the WBUUC Board in October 2024.
  • Supported a series of six congregational workshops on Raising Racial Consciousness led by Rev. Anthony Galloway of the Dendros Group. Download the Guideposts
  • Created a listserv that highlights cultural and educational events as well as opportunities for activism supporting racial justice.
