Homelessness & Affordable Housing

Doormat with 'Home' written and heart symbol on wooden porch.

Everyone deserves a home.

WBUUC was instrumental in the creation of a youth drop-in center in the East Metro, while working to support other initiatives addressing homelessness in the northeast suburban and Twin Cities area.

North Star Youth Outreach Center

The Social Action Committee helped establish the North Star Youth Outreach Center in 2016 with the nonprofit organization Tubman Center.  Today the Center maintains a modern facility in Maplewood Mall with a full-time coordinator that serves at risk youth in the NE Metro area. Volunteers are always welcome and training is available.

Solid Ground

WBUUC members helped create Solid Ground in the 1990s.  Located just two miles from WBUUC, today Solid Ground is an award-winning nonprofit organization that helps families build the strong foundations they need to emerge from homelessness into a brighter future.

BLUU Cooperative Housing Initiative

The Black Lives UU (BLUU) Cooperative Housing Initiative in Minneapolis is a project to create, as an act of our faith, new, actually affordable, long-term housing for Black and Indigenous families. WBUUC has held many special collections for this project.
