About Special Collections
WBUUC donates the entire offertory collection at least two Sundays a month to a nonprofit organization or cause chosen by the Social Action Committee. Over the last ten years WBUUC members have given away over $500,000.
Our Current Special Collection
Our current special collection is for the Lower Sioux Indian Community as a Mni Sota Makoce Honor Tax. This voluntary tax payment is for WBUUC’s use of land which previously belonged to the Dakota peoples. WBUUC’s Land Acknowledgement Statement (2024) calls on our congregation to make meaningful amends to the Dakota community. Funds will be used for land acquisition, support for youth and tribal citizens, for housing, public education, and community outreach.
